Former Providence CEO Jonathan Nelson helped make the firm one of private equity’s earliest sports entrants thanks to its role as a founding investor in the YES Network in 2002. Nelson is now co-leading Dynasty, a newly launched sports investment firm that in September acquired a minority stake in Liverpool. Providence’s current sports strategy is helmed by Scott Marimow, who oversees a sports portfolio that’s featured stakes in Wasserman, Real Madrid’s commercial business, Topgolf and MLS commercial arm Soccer United Marketing, among others.
