NEW YORK, NY – April 29, 2021: Tempo Music Investments (“Tempo”), an investment platform for premium music rights, announced today the acquisition of music catalogs from some of today’s biggest artists, songwriters and producers including multi-platinum-selling, GRAMMY® Award and Golden Globe® Award-nominated recording artist Wiz Khalifa, GRAMMY® Award-nominated country duo Florida Georgia Line, GRAMMY® Award-winning songwriter Brett James and GRAMMY® Award-nominated singer-songwriter Mia Fieldes. Tempo has also acquired catalogs from top producers including GRAMMY® Award-winning songwriter, producer and CMNTY Culture founder Philip Lawrence (“24k Magic” & “Uptown Funk“ Bruno Mars, “All I Ask” Adele, and more) and GRAMMY® Award-winning songwriter, producer, engineer and Frank Ocean collaborator Malay.
“In the 18 months since Tempo was launched, we’ve quietly been making strategic acquisitions from some of today’s top song-writing talent,” said Josh Empson, Tempo Chief Executive Officer. “Today, I’m excited to announce that Tempo has built a diverse, best-in-class portfolio, with significant investible capital to keep growing.”
“I’m excited to partner with Tempo Music,” said Wiz Khalifa. “Their approach to artists and music is impressive as well as collaborative. I’m looking forward to our continued growth.”
Tempo was launched in 2019 with $650 million in buying power, funded by Providence Equity Partners, a premier private equity firm specializing in the media, communications, education, software and services industries, in partnership with Warner Music Group. A new platform to promote recording artists and songwriters across the globe, Tempo’s first acquisitions included selected copyrights of GRAMMY® Award-winning songwriters Jeff Bhasker, Shane McAnally and Ben Rector. With 15 nominations and five GRAMMY® wins including Producer of the Year, Bhasker has worked with some of the biggest names in the business. McAnally is a three-time GRAMMY® Award-winner and seven-time nominee who also serves as Co-President of Monument Records. Independent artist Rector is a rising singer-songwriter with success in licensing music across numerous TV shows, national ad campaigns and movie trailers.
“Tempo has quickly become a leading investment platform with a diverse range of catalogs that allows artists the opportunity to continue to participate in the business of their catalog moving forward,” said Rob Walker, Tempo Senior Advisor. “We are musician friendly and innovative in the way we approach the music. We are thrilled to be partnering with a myriad of talent and support their art.”
